About Shona Simpson

I believe in the power of story to honor the past and shape the future. Through The Tiroran Group, I help organizations tell theirs—beautifully and thoroughly.

As a freelance writer based in North Carolina, I specialize in long-form commemorative books that celebrate company and institutional milestones. Whether you’re honoring a 50th or 150th anniversary, the result is more than just a book—it’s a legacy piece for alumni, employees, donors, and future generations.

I hold a PhD from Duke University where I was a recipient of the Mellon Fellowship in the Humanities. My research deepened my passion for uncovering and preserving meaningful histories.

Before founding The Tiroran Group, I spent years as an English professor.

That experience taught me how to research deeply, write clearly, and listen closely.

Every book I create begins with thoughtful interviews, detailed historical research, and a strong sense of narrative direction. I’ve worked with clients like Unifi, North Carolina State University - Wilson College of Textiles, and Reynolds American to produce custom publications that capture not just the facts, but the spirit and values of the people and institutions behind them.
